The metal stamping process is one that is used in many industries for many reasons. The process involves the use of dyes that are pressed into the metal in order to create things like letters, numbers, and shapes. Why is metal stamping done?

There are a lot of reasons for metal stamping. In some cases, small stamps are put into metal tags, such as dog tags for soldiers or license plates for cars. In other cases, metal stamping is done to create large metal signs for businesses to give them a full-metal 3-D sign. Things like buttons, belt buckles, and jewelry are also often stamped. 

Shapes are also often stamped into metal. This is done to create specific shapes so the items can perform some type of job. For example, one of the things that might be stamped is a metal clamp. The clamp will be stamped into a precise shape and angle so that it will be able to be used to connect two items together. Another example of something shaped in a specific way is a toy car. The car parts will be stamped into specific shapes and then assembled to create the toy car. Larger items are stamped as well, such as actual car parts and industrial materials for construction, equipment, machinery, and more. 

If you look around your house, you will find plenty of things that have been stamped. Also, when you leave your home, stamped items will be nearly everywhere. 

Benefits of stamping

Stamping can be done on a small scale, to stamp out one specific item, or it can be done on a large scale, to stamp out hundreds of thousands of items and even more. The benefit of stamping is getting a nearly identical item each time. Also, stamping prevents the need for other processes that would be more involved and might be costly. 

Stamping doesn't only stamp shapes into things and cause the items themselves to take on different shapes, but it can also cut the items or punch specific shapes into them. An example of how shapes can be punched into items can be seen in something like a piece that needs to have holes in it for screws or bolts to go through the piece. Metal stamping can create those holes.
